More to See in 2023!

Notes from Fair President, Joan Smith

More to see in 2023!!  That's our tagline for the Fair this year, but what does it mean for you?  It means that you'll see many of your old favorites back at the Fair in 2023, but they'll be joined with some new entertainment that you won't want to miss!  Contracts are still in the works, but here are a few things to look forward to in the Family Entertainment Area and around the grounds.

Circus Incredible-

With high-flying stunts and acrobatics, Circus Incredible with Lyric Wallenda Arestov will provide fairgoers with supercharged entertainment!  Visit their Facebook page for more pictures and videos- https://www.facebook.com/Circusincredible/
Heartfelt Creations-
Cindie and Bob Etienne with Heartfelt Creations will be along Horticulture Highway (the road in front of the Conservatory) and will be demonstrating and teaching the arts of felting and ropemaking. Cindie and Bob have been teaching pioneer skills for many years and will be a part of our Heritage Area, along with Roger the Bowl Turner and Reggie the Potter.  You can visit their website at http://www.heart-felt-creations.com/ for more info.
Your favorites like Freehand Custom Carving, Hot Dog Racing Pigs, Commerford Petting Zoo, and much, much more will be returning to the Fair!  More info will follow in future newsletters. Don't miss the 2023 NJ State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show!

Spring Arrives!

Monday, March 20th is the Spring Equinox- the official first day of Spring.  Gardeners think about plants all year, but the arrival of spring means it’s time to do more than think.  Let this be your reminder to look ahead to entering your blooms in the Fair.  Announcing! The theme for the 2023 Flower Show Competition is “Flowers & Fashion”. The competition is open to all ages and for in and out-of-county residents. The Flower Show Competition Rules and Regulations as well as class descriptions and entry forms for both Professionals and Amateurs will be posted on the NJ State Fair website [njstatefair.org] in March. Here are some of our winning entries from 2022.

Annual 4-H Ritual

If it’s March, it’s time for the Sussex County 4-H Public Presentations.  4-H Club members choose to present a demonstration/illustrated talk, performing arts, or formal speech.  The presentation is judged by adult volunteers from the community.  The purpose of the presentations is to help youth develop skills for presenting themselves and their ideas that will prepare them for a successful future.

The Conservatory: A Location to Make Memories

Nestled in the foothills of Sussex County, The Conservatory is the premier location for your wedding or event.  Beautiful gardens and gazebos are the perfect natural backdrop for your day- whether you are holding your ceremony in front of your loved ones or engaging in a first look with your partner.  The rustic interior lends a warm and inviting atmosphere for dinner, dancing and soaking in your union.  With endless options to create your unique vision, The Conservatory is ready to bring those dreams to life.

The Polinator Pathway

The Pollinator Pathway project is organized by volunteers from town conservation organizations working together to establish pollinator-friendly habitats and food sources for bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinating insects and wildlife along a series of continuous corridors.
The Fairgrounds is working on establishing a Pollinator Pathway on its grounds with local organizations including Sussex County Community College and Ridge and Valley Charter School.  The riparian zone along the creek will be planted with native plants on May 20th.
If you or your group is interested in volunteering, please contact nswanson@njstatefair.org.
